U.S. Department of Labor Launches Initiative to Protect Hotel and Motel Workers in Pennsylvania
On June 2, 2011, the U.S. Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division (WHD) issued a press release announcing an enforcement initiative focusing on Pennsylvanias hotel and motel industry. WHD claims that it has found consistent and widespread noncompliance with the minimum wage, overtime, and recordkeeping provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Indeed, between 2007 and 2010, WHD has conducted 165 investigations of Pennsylvania hotels and motels and recovered more than $366,000 in back wages for more than 900 employees.
