Voluntary Inspection Program.

For Bed & Breakfasts, Country Inns, and Farm Vacations

It is our aim to see that visitors to Pennsylvania have an enjoyable lodging experience. Of primary importance is the cleanliness, guest comfort, breakfast appeal, guest safety, innkeeper professionalism, and appearance of the inn. Consequently, this inspection is not based on subjective opinion of the host’s decor or theme. This inspection program is available for any B&B, Country Inn or Farm Vacation, within Pennsylvania. Each inspection is valid for two years. The fee to participate is $95.00.

What is the PTLA B&B Inspection Program?
The PTLA’s inspection program is a quality review—that’s strictly voluntary—for Pennsylvania B&Bs, Country Inns, and Farm Vacations that don’t have any other type of inspection (ie: AAA, Mobil, Select Registry). The inspection will need to be renewed every two years.

Who can participate?
Any Bed & Breakfast, Farm Vacation, or Country Inn located in PA—you DO NOT need to be a member of the Pennsylvania Tourism & Lodging Association.

How much does it cost?
The cost of the inspection is $95.00

Who does the inspection?
The inspection is conducted by RLD Associates, an independent agency that does inspections for insurance carriers.

When do the inspections take place?
The inspection program is in full swing right now and you can get involved at any time.

How would someone know my property is inspected?
Every property that successfully passes the inspection will receive a “Keystone Certificate” that can be framed or otherwise displayed at the property.

You will also receive a sheet of logos (also available electronically by request) that you can use on your printed materials and website.

Do I have to be inspected every year?
No, every two years! The program previously used comment cards to monitor the individual participants. However, in an attempt to follow standards set on a national level, the cards will no longer be used for the inspection program. This is why you must renew your inspection every two years.

Can I get more than one Keystone?
NO! A property either gets a keystone or they don’t (it’s a pass/fail inspection).

How do I sign-up?
Simply fill out an application (see below) and send it along with your $95.00 to the PTLA office. A representative from the PA Tourism & Lodging Association or RLD Associates will contact you to make arrangements. Every attempt will be made to inspect your property within 30 days of your request.

How do I find out what’s included in the inspection?
From this web page you can dowload a copy of the actual inspection (32K PDF File) to see what is covered.

What if I have more questions?
