House Passes Room Tax Proposal

Today, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives approved (by a vote of 118-80) legislation that would increase the local room tax from 3% to 5% in Dauphin County. Under House Bill 1877, the majority of the additional tax will be distributed to the Hershey Harrisburg Regional Visitors Bureau for tourism marketing purposes. The remaining funds are earmarked for a Dauphin County authority and will be used for tourism-related facilities. Local tourism organizations support the bill, including the Visitors Bureau, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts and the Harrisburg Hotel Corporation.
