We would also like to introduce you to the newest member of the PTLA Board of Directors, Carl Kosko.
An accomplished chef, Carl has acquired the experience to run and operate his own Bed and Breakfast. He and his wife are full time Innkeepers at the Harvest Moon Bed and Breakfast in New Holland, Pennsylvania, a part of the county that is truly in the middle of the Amish countryside.
Carl began his experience as a chef with his education at the famed Rhode Island School of Design. RISD, being the art school that it is, has taught Carl the true essence of this profession. Graduating in 1986, he left Providence and went on to Rockport Massachusetts as a Sous Chef at the Yankee Clipper Inn, a 26- room facility, situated on the north shore of Boston in the tiny coastal village of Rockport. The Yankee Clipper Inn catered to approximately 70 functions each year. Couple this with its dining facilities, guest rooms and special events; The Yankee Clipper was a full service inn.
Carl continued his career at the Yankee Clipper Inn eventually working his way up to General Manager In the year 1999, a goal was set, it was time to own and operate an inn of their own. After selling their home and the Yankee Clipper Inn selling their establishment after over fifty years of being in operation, the decision was made to move on to Pennsylvania.
The Harvest Moon was acquired during the month of August of 2001 as a personal house. Renovations were under way to turn this house into a B&B before they moved in. Third floor bedrooms and a living space for the family were added on. Other updates such as wiring, emergency exits/lighting and a fire system were added as well.
Eventually the Harvest Moon opened during April of 2002, a dream that was sixteen years in the making. Carl now runs the Inn using all his knowledge from the past years. His house is now the pallet for his creativity both esthetically and also in pleasing his guest.
Over the years, Carl and the Harvest Moon Bed and Breakfast continued to grow within the hospitality industry. He soon joined PAII, the PA Dutch Convention & Visitors Bureau and local bed and breakfast associations to begin his career as an innkeeper. Joining committees, attending industry conventions and being a strong advocate for the industry, Carl became more involved. The Harvest Moon was featured in the Washington Post in 2007 for its unique connection to the culinary world. In 2008, Carl received an award from his peers in the industry. The Pennsylvania Dutch Convention and Visitors Bureau honored him with the Spirit of Innovation award in regards to his work as marketing chair within the Authentic Bed and Breakfast Association.
Carl continues to build on the success both personally and professionally. His commitment within the bed and breakfast industry and even more in the hospitality industry is more than just a career; it is a lifestyle for him.
