With a new Governor and legislative leaders this year, our industry is presented with a great opportunity to partner with the new Administration on achieving our goals and objectives. Members of PTLA and PACVB have been jointly meeting with Governor Corbett's transition members, new members of the Governor's staff and with leadership in both the Senate and House. These talks have centered around Tourism issues, the significant economic impact of Tourism and how we can partner with this new Administration and leadership to get our priorities accomplished.
PTLA will be sharing more specific details on each of these issues, along with strategies needed to accomplish these efforts as we move forward. The upcoming Tourism Summit in March will provide an opportunity to discuss these topic in greater detail.
Please share these priorities within your organization and with your local legislators.
Post Labor Day Legislation
Representative Godshall has introduced HB 137 in regards to the Post Labor Day School issue. PTLA has supported this issue for many years and will continue to work with our tourism partners. HB 137 will be referred to the House Tourism Committee.
Governor's Budget Address
The Governor's budget address is scheduled for March 8th, which is the Tuesday prior to the 2011 Pennsylvania Tourism Industry Summit. This provides an opportunity for tourism partners to discuss and address Tourism issues as they pertain to the Governor's budget.
DCED Secretary
The new DCED Secretary Alan Walker is scheduled for his confirmation hearing before the State Senate on February 15th. PTLA is preparing questions for Senators to ask Mr. Walker during those proceedings in regards to Tourism issues and how DCED will be structured in the new Administration.
