Innkeepers Rights Act - Protect Your Property!

What protection does a property have from a person who is:

  • unable or willing to pay for accommodations or services
  • disorderly
  • seeking accommodations for what is believed to be an unlawful purpose
  • bringing property onto the property that may be dangerous to other persons

The Pennsylvania Innkeepers' Rights Act
As you may be aware, on October 30, 1996, Governor Tom Ridge signed this Act into law. The purpose of this legislation is to enable properties to deny, without liability, accommodations, facilities or privileges of a lodging establishment to persons for reasons of public health and safety or to persons who do not demonstrate the financial ability to pay for the accommodations and services of the lodging establishment; and to preclude the property from being held liable or in violation of any of the laws of this Commonwealth in the event of denial of accommodations, facilities or privileges for such reasons.

This act shall not apply to a property unless a copy of this act is posted at or near the guest registration desk.

The Pennsylvania Tourism & Lodging Association is able to provide you with this valuable protection. Innkeeper Rights notices are available on sturdy cardboard stock in an easel format that may be placed on the registration desk or framed and mounted nearby. Thay can be ordered from the PTLA website at www.patourism.org/pubs.html. Do not delay, protect your property today!
